About Janice Davin
Storytelling saved Janice Davin’s career as a teacher and maybe her life. During 30 years in the classroom, she used stories to calm savage beasts, subdue mutinies, and make the curriculum memorable. Currently Janice provides programs for schools, churches, and retirement communities.
Janice Davin brings to each performance her dynamic talent as a storyteller, her respect for the power of spoken art, and her extensive experience as a classroom teacher. Children develop their gifts of heart, mind, and body as they enjoy and participate in her entertaining and thought-provoking narratives. Janice actively engages her audience through creative activities during and after the story. Students tell, retell, and dramatize the story using puppets or creative movement. They sing, dance, and play instruments to amplify the story.
Janice holds a M.Ed. in Elementary Education from the University of North Carolina in Greensboro and a M.A. in Oral Traditions from the Graduate Institute in Connecticut.
Janice received National Board Certification in 1997. She served as a coach for National Board Candidates in the Charlotte-Mecklenburg School System during the 1999- 2000 and 2001-2002 school years. Janice has also served as a mentor for many teachers seeking NC licensure.
Janice is a board member of the North Carolina Storytelling Guild and the Charlotte Friends of Jung. She is a member of the National Storytelling Network, the American Orff Schulwerk Association, the Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development, the National Council of Teachers of English, and the International Society for Technology in Education.
